What might happen(THIS IS MY OPINION< IF YOU DONT LIKE IT...THEN OH WELL.)

The mayans had the most advanced calender at their time. Yes, we all know that. Great. Okay, so according to them, the world is going to end December 21, 2012.
Now, I'm 16, I really don't have a life outside of my family, and my boyfriend, so when I'm not with my boyfriend or my family, I'm sitting at home watching TV. One day, I was watching something about 2012, and it said that the Sun is going to alline with the middle of the milky way galexy, or some other galexy near us, and its going to cause astronamical accourance on planet earth.
I was doing a project for history, and I decided that I was going to goof off for a second, so i typed in 2012, and got this web site(forgot the adress)that had one preson that was REALLY SCARED! about 2012. I looked at all the responses, and one of them said: THERES NOTHING TO FREAKING WORRY ABOUT! USE COMMON SENSE! THE SUN IS GOING TO BE 6 DEGREES OFF FROM THE MIDDLE OF THAT GALEXY! AND IF SOMETHING HAPPENS, WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO ABOUT IT? WE'RE HUMANS!
This caught my attention, and I decided to compare it. If you think that 2012 is the end, please respond explaining your answer. If you think not, or that its a fifty fifty chance, then please put no or maybe, and explain. Thank you.

Hi, Shara. No, I do not believe the world is going to end in 2012. I believe there will be some drastic changes precipitated by events beyond our control that will change the way we live on a daily basis. So in this sense, the life that we have all become accustomed to will be altered in some way. Is it the end? No, it's the beginning of a new way of life in which we are less dependent on "stuff" and rely more on one another. We could see some shortages in things that we have taken for granted: energy (electricity), food supplies, etc. When we all come to rely less on the material things in life, we will all become more in tune with the spiritual aspects of our lives. This is a good thing. Remember, that in history dramatic change for the better has never come without a sacrifice. We will all still be here in December of 2012, but undoubtedly we will be undergoing or have already undergone profound change in our way of life. I hope this helps.

I happened to visit some of the Mayan ruins a month ago and talked with some Mayan decendants.

Yes, we're being stupid.

No, nothing is going to happen.

good. I never thought that it was going to end, im just going by what other people are saying. My friend and I were having a fight about it, and she kept saying its so going to happen, we're all going to die, I better do the things i want to do before then...and im like its not going to happen, sure some people may die, but if you know how to take care of your self, you'll be fine...and she kept going on and on about it, and i finally had enough, and asked some other people, which leads to here. so i get to laugh in my friends face...not really im not that mean.

I know this is pretty late, but I believe 2012 won't be the end either. Yet, I do believe that it will bring a great spiritual change.

Also, the Mayans weren't the only one who thought 2012 was the a unique year.

Examples go from the very long past, to the very present.

Merlin, Nostradamus, Even book of revalations.
As for something new, it's the Web Bot Project.
Even some psychics have beleived 2012 was a very important year
The chinese I-Ching, was logged and got a huge crash in 2012.

Just wanted to show that Mayans weren't the only ones who had "Prophetic" visions of 2012. =)

No, I don't think the world will end. I am an anthropology student with a focus on archaeology and everything I've seen, read and heard from academic circles points to a couple of things. 1. 2012 is not the end of the world according to myan astrology. It is the end of the calendar, not that different from our new year celebration. The mayans divided their calender into groups of 20 (except they had 18 months) and came up with this calculation. 2. The mayans could accurately predict eclipses, comets, and meteor showers, but these seem to be due to a religious significance. The mayans showed little or no interest in the milky way galaxy, planetary alignment, or the outer solar system and universe as a whole. 3. There is very little that we can find on the actual calendar system as most myan tablets and papyri were destroyed by conquistadors for religious reasons or practical reasons (kindling for fire). What little we have is vague at best and the particulr carving that speaks of 2012 is incomplete and not yet fully interpreted. Sorry for the lateness of the post, but I hope this helps.

I do believe that we are going through some significant changes but these are more spiritual. People are awakening to their spiritual side and "gifts" are becoming more apparent. I think this is a cycle of enlightenment for all of humankind and not a destruction of the planet itself.
